Great,
You have flown into Amman from Queen Alia Airport. It is now 5:45pm.
Would you like to head straight to King Hussain Bridge to enter Palestine or get a hotel in Amman for the night?
[[Go straight to the bridge for crossing]]
[[Leave in the morning]]
You catch a cab to take you to the bridge, but struggled to find a taxi driver who was willing. At 7:00 pm you finally arrive at the bridge crossing.
You arrived too late at the border had closed for the day due to unforseen complications with immigration.
You decide to head to a hotel nearby and try again in the morning. $150 JD later from the taxi ride, your arrive at the hotel. The taxi driver wishes you luck in the morning.
[[Leave in the morning]] After advice from the hotel concierge, you arrange for a taxi pickup at 4am to leave for the border crossing. It is about an hour drivr and you get to the Jordanian side of the bridge at 5am.
Do you instruct the driver to drop you off at the V.I.P. entrance (for foreginers) or the local entance?
[[V.I.P.]]
[[Local Entrance]]The driver takes you to the entrance and you see "VIP" in big white letters above the door.
Did you take time to get to know your taxi driver on the drive?
[[Yes, we talked a little bit and got to know each other]]
[[No, I had my head phones on the whole time and did not greet him]]The driver drops you off at the local entrance and it is chaotic. Hundreds of people are already there waiting at the help booth. No one is in a line, but rather a giant clump pushing to get to the front.
You wait for an hour, and finally reach the front.
The officer asks for your passport and you hand over your U.S. passport.
"Wrong place" he says.
You try to ask for clarification, but we waves on the group behind you.
Luckily, a man sees you and approaches to help.
"You need to go to the VIP entrance side, since you have an American Passport".
He points east, you gather your luggage and make the mile long walk in the 80 degree morning sun to the correct entrance.
[[Go Through Security]] The driver motions for you to get out of the car as you have reached your destination. You struggle to carry your heavy luggage all the way to the door, as there are no carts.
[[Go Through Security]] Nice!
The taxi driver helps you carry your luggage inside and places it on the X-ray machine's conveyer belt.
[[Go Through Security]]Your bags makes it through the X-Ray machine with no issues.
You look around and see some families sitting down on chairs and others in a line at the help desk.
[[Take a seat]]
[[Join the line]]You take a seat, unsure what the line is for. After a while of waiting, you ask the woman next to you what everyone is waiting for.
"You need to give your passport to pay the crossing tax."
[[Join the line]] You walk up to the line, there are about 7 people ahead of you. They are waiting at the help desk but no officers are at there yet. It is 5:30am.
You see the officers standing around and smoking cigarrettes, laughing in conversation with each other, unbothered by the people waiting.
[[Make small talk with the people in line.]]
[[Stay quiet and wait patiently]]You overhear a family in front of you
